Data collected by the National Youth Involvement Board (NYIB) underscores credit unions’ commitment to youth in 2013-14, during which the not-for-profits reached a total of 392,374 students in 10,944 classrooms presentations.  Texas ranks 2nd in number of presentations given (914) and 6th in number of students reached (25,331).  Oklahoma ranks 8th in number of students reached (20,319).

“We applaud our credit unions and their efforts to educate young people on money management,” says Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation Associate Director Staci Zale. “Their efforts will better prepare our youth to manage greater financial responsibilities in adulthood.”

Oklahoma-based Tinker FCU received accolades for team recognition in highest number of students reached at 16,686. Additionally, Mandy Clayton, director of financial education with FivePoint FCU, and David Rodriguez, financial education manager with Generations FCU, were among the top 10 presenters, based on number of presentations given. Clayton ranked first (523) and Rodriguez ninth (153).

Clayton and Rodriguez are both part of the Foundation FOCUS Network.  Foundation FOCUS is a collaborative initiative focused on expanding financial education outreach, making an impact on the lives of preschoolers to adults. This unique initiative is led by the Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation, allowing the Foundation to diversely impact communities of all shapes and sizes from cradle to grave.
