NCUA’s McWatters Joins Catalyst's Economic Forum Line Up
Monday, June 1, 2015 6:15 AM

NCUA Board Member J. Mark McWatters has joined an impressive line-up of presenters slated for Catalyst Corporate Federal Credit Union’s 38th annual Economic Forum. The Economic Forum will be held Oct. 6-8 at the Omni Mandalay Hotel at Las Colinas in Irving, Texas.

McWatters served as assistant dean for graduate programs and as professor of practice at the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, and as adjunct professor at the SMU Cox School of Business before his appointment to the NCUA board. He will join Bill Hampel, chief economist and chief policy officer at CUNA; Steven Happel, professor of economics at the Arizona State University W.P. Carey School of Business; and Forum-favorite and former CNBC Chief Economist Marci Rossell.

“Each year, our goal is to assemble a team of expert presenters who address the economy from a variety of perspectives, so that credit union leaders are well-informed and prepared to chart the future direction of their institutions," said Kathy Garner, CEO of Catalyst Corporate. "The Economic Forum is a valuable resource for credit unions positioning themselves for challenges ahead."

During his presentation at the Economic Forum, McWatters will provide insights on current regulatory issues and will conduct a Q&A session to discuss credit union areas of concern.

The Economic Forum line-up also includes newcomers Daniel Levine and Andrew Busch.

Levine, a trends expert, will identify industry social trends and offer techniques for responding to these trends in a way that generates positive results for the credit union. Levine serves as director of The Avant-Guide Institute and is global editor of WikiTrend.org. While his research-driven presentations are energetic, humorous, and provocative, their practical focus inspires attendees to take note and take action.

Andrew B. Busch is the host of VoiceAmerica's "Engage with Andy Busch." Andy's show covers politics and money. Busch appears weekly on FOX Business' Opening Bell with Maria Bartiromo, as well as on Foxbusiness.com. He has also served as editor-in-chief for the global market and public policy newsletter, "The Busch Update," for the past 13 years.

For 22 years, Busch was with BMO Capital Markets, where he was named BMO's Global Currency and Public Policy Strategist in 2007. From 2004 to 2008, he was an outside advisor to the U.S. Treasury Department and White House on the economy and financial markets. He has advised the last three U.S. Secretaries of the Treasury: John Snow, Hank Paulson, and Tim Geithner.

As in years past, the Economic Forum will kick off with a “nuts and bolts” session featuring presentations from Catalyst Strategic Solutions experts who will offer specific strategies for managing risk and positioning credit unions for growth in a demanding economy.

Registration for this year’s Economic Forum opens in early July. For details, see Conferences/2015 Economic Forum under “Learning Center” at www.catalystcorp.org
