After nearly 45 years of public service, NCUA Inspector General William DeSarno retired last Friday.

DeSarno worked for NCUA for 16 years and became the agency’s Inspector General in 2005. In addition to this role, DeSarno acted as inspector general for audits and deputy inspector general and was known for being involved in all aspects of his office. He also established the Office of Inspector General’s first strategic plan.

Prior to joining NCUA in 1997, DeSarno worked seven years with the Treasury Department’s Inspector General’s office as well as 18 years with the General Accounting Office.

James Hagen, NCUA’s current deputy inspector general for audit, assumed the inspector general position on June 1.
