NCUA Board Reviews Quarterly Report on NCUSIF

At yesterday’s monthly meeting of the National Credit Union Administration board, NCUA staff briefed the board on the condition of the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, which saw 15 credit union failures in 2014, down from 17 in 2013.

In the quarterly report, staff noted that the NCUSIF has an equity ratio of 1.29 percent as of December 31. The NCUSIF’s reserves stand at approximately $178.3 million. There are currently 276 CAMEL 4 and 5 credit unions, which represent 1.13 percent of insured shares, or approximately $10.2 billion.

NCUA staff also noted that there are 1,411 CAMEL 3 credit unions, which represent 9.44 percent of insured shares, or $84.9 billion of insured shares. Combined, insured shares in CAMEL 3, 4, and 5 credit unions represent 10.57 percent of total insured shares.
