A recent survey by SWACHA, a nonprofit payments association, found that 33 percent of Texans use mobile banking applications on a smartphone or tablet, up from 20 percent who said they used such applications in 2011. The survey also found that 46 percent of people surveyed deposit checks via their smartphones, up from 16 percent in 2011.  Credit unions like Metro Medical CU are responding to the demand.

The credit union tells the Leaguer that they’ve just launched a new suite of free mobile banking products, including text banking, browser-based banking, and app-based banking, for its members with online banking accounts.

The Mobile Banking products, the credit union says, allows members to access their accounts anywhere, anytime, to quickly and securely check account balances, view transaction history, transfer funds and pay their bills.

“Our members live full and active lives and these products better enable them to manage their finances at their convenience, from anywhere in the world,” says Dolores Jarboe, president & CEO of Metro Medical CU. “These products allow us to better serve our members, no matter where they might be.”

To celebrate the launch, Metro Medical CU gave away a Kindle Fire HD to one lucky member who signed up and used at least one of the Mobile Banking products during the six week promotional period. Metro Medical had over six percent of all online banking users sign up for the service within the promotional period, a record for the credit union. The lucky Kindle Fire HD winner was long-time member Carolyn Nelson (pictured).
