Mary Nell Johnson James, a long-time credit union leader, died Sept. 17 at the age of 84. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer, Texas. Her ashes will be buried in the family plot in the Little Mound Cemetery.

Nell was employed by Lone Star Steel FCU for 32 years, starting as a part time employee in 1955 and ending as the CEO in 1987. After retirement, she and her husband Thedward Duane James (who died Aug. 31, 2013) resumed their love of travel by completing visits to all 50 states in the U.S., as well as touring England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, Spain, Portugal, North Africa, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
