Meet the Winner of the Foundation’s Mustang Mania Campaign
Wednesday, October 21, 2015 6:50 AM

Shelli Rangel

Shelli Rangel never expected to hear from the Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation on Sept. 10 at 9:00 p.m. as she was putting her children to bed. So, when she answered the phone and heard lots of noise in the background (from the CUNA Mutual party at the Leadership Conference in San Antonio), she did the obvious thing and hung up the phone.  When she retrieved her voicemail announcing that she was the winner of the 2015 Mustang Mania, she was understandably shocked and overjoyed.

Rangel is a single mother of two small children who recently became engaged to a very nice gentleman with two children of his own. She has been a loyal employee of Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union for more than 20 years and is currently working in the home equity department.

How did this all happen?

Chris O’Connor, CEO of Randolph-Brooks FCU, purchased 300 Mustang Mania tickets. Then he gave all 300 tickets to his management team to be given to their employees. He said they had earned them by doing things over and above the call of duty for their members or their community. Shelli was the recipient of two of these tickets, one being the winning ticket.

Two options were available to the winner. She could choose to take the Mustang or, instead, take the cash value.

“If I was in in a different phase of my life and did not have four wonderful children, ages 18 months to 14 years, I would love a Mustang,” Shelli said. The money will make a nice a nest egg and a great honeymoon for the newly engaged couple.

Congratulations to Shelli, and best wishes to you and your growing family.

The Cornerstone Foundation extends huge thanks to everyone who bought a Mustang Mania ticket. You are all winners.

All of the net proceeds raised from the tickets go back to the staff, credit unions, and chapters of the Cornerstone region to carry out the Foundation’s three primary initiatives: financial education programs for youth and adults, professional development for credit union staff and volunteers, and disaster relief for credit union staff when disaster strikes.

We cannot wait to see who the big winner will be in 2016!
