Beth Peters

At the 15th Annual Meeting of the Cornerstone Credit Union League Lending Council, the award for Lending Professional of the Year went to Beth Peters, VP lending for Unity One Credit Union.

The meeting took place at the Southwest Lending Council Conference in Oklahoma City, and the award was presented by chair of the executive committee, Jennifer Webb, also the SVP of lending for FivePoint Credit Union.

Peters has been with Unity One Credit Union in Fort Worth for 23 years. Unity One CEO Gary Williams noted that Peters identified a number of areas that needed to be addressed and helped establish a wide variety of initiatives to address their findings, which increased the credit union's success in lending.

Among her accomplishments, Peters updated the credit union's lending policies, procedures, and rates to make them more competitive and to increase loan approvals; expanded indirect channels and increased volume through all indirect channels; increased loan yields and loan production by carefully taking on more credit risk; reduced interest-rate risk by shifting loan mix to shorter term loans and reducing their reliance on real estate loans; and increased the look-to-book ratio by making process improvements and developing better follow-up methods for pending approved loans.

As a result of Peter's efforts, the credit union has raised their loans-to-shares ratio from 58 percent in 2013 to 81 percent as of year-end 2015.

Mike Delker, Cornerstone SVP credit union relations, presented the award and described Peters as the heart of a credit union person who exemplifies the collaborative spirit that characterizes our industry.

The purpose of the Cornerstone Credit Union League's Lending Professional of the Year award is to recognize outstanding lending results through stable and sustainable operations.
