Learn How to Make Solid Loan Decisions at Comprehensive Lending Seminar

Consumer lending is not a skill one learns quickly. It takes time and practice. The 2015 Lending Seminar—Comprehensive 101, covers a broad spectrum of information on consumer lending over two days. Participants will learn issues from the philosophy of consumer lending to making a solid loan decision that benefits the member and the credit union.

Attend one of two seminars, in Little Rock, July 28-29, or Dallas, Oct. 20-21.

Your presenter, John Baptista, will lead attendees through the following lending topics:

Day One – Stepping into Consumer Lending

  • The philosophy of consumer lending
  • The role of regulations and compliance
  • The terminology of consumer lending
  • The two lending equations necessary for a solid loan decision
  • The two most important financial reports
  • The application process and application types
  • The documents associated with the credit investigation
  • The decision process and why the letter "C" is most important
  • The 4 types of collateral and how they relate to loan amount
  • Understanding the different types of consumer loan products
  • Understanding credit scores

Day Two – Going Up

  • The role one’s values play in lending
  • How to effectively communicate with members during the loan interview
  • Ethics and the role it plays in lending
  • Risk-based lending and how loan products are priced
  • A new market for consumer loans
  • Techniques to build member relationships using a consumer loan application
  • Information on credit reports and how to read them
  • The red flags and challenges associated with lending
  • Make decisions on sample credit applications

This program is geared for a variety of employees, from novices to more advanced loan officers. Those starting out will benefit most by attending both sessions. For those with a greater degree of experience, the second day will cover more advanced topics.
