Data Breach Resources for Credit Unions and Their Members

In view of the extraordinary data breach at Equifax, credit unions have been reaching out to Cornerstone Credit Union League with questions. While credit unions do not have specific regulatory obligations with regard to third-party breaches like Equifax, as member-owned cooperatives, credit unions are ready to assist their members in whatever ways are available.

Greater Texas Credit Union in Austin, Texas, raised $21,570 through employee and member fundraising, which was then matched by the credit union and presented by check on Sept. 20 to the American Red Cross to support their Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

CFPB Amends Rules to Certain Mortgage Lenders Collecting Info

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on Wednesday modified Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) regulations to provide additional flexibility for mortgage lenders in the collection of consumer ethnicity and race information. These amendments will provide greater clarity for mortgage lenders regarding their obligations under the law, while promoting compliance with rules intended to ensure consumers are treated fairly.

NCUA Board Considers Fund Merger and Boost in Operating Level
