San Antonio credit union leaders met with U.S. Congressman Will Hurd (R-District 23) this week. The congressman updated the group on a wide array of issues, from tax reform to the risks from North Korea.

TCUD Issues Guidance for Home Equity Lending in Disaster Areas

The Texas Credit Union Department has issued an informational memorandum to help guide credit unions affected by natural disasters such as Hurricane Harvey when making, refinancing or modifying home equity loans.  These situations have constitutional implications and credit unions should proceed with caution.

Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) Announces Retirement

Rep. Jeb Hensarling is retiring from Congress when his term is up in 2018.  He released a statement Tuesday, stating he never aimed to become a career politician.  "Today I am announcing that I will not seek reelection to the US Congress in 2018. Although service in Congress remains the greatest privilege of my life, I never intended to make it a lifetime commitment, and I have already stayed far longer than I had originally planned."

Muskogee FCU Celebrates ICU Day with Community

In celebration of International Credit Union Day, this year on Oct. 19, Muskogee Federal Credit Union employees delivered cookies and many thanks to all Muskogee EMS stations, fire departments, and the Police Department. Staff also handed out free tote bags to shoppers at the local Aldi grocery store.

Legislators Support CUNA Call for Website ADA Guidance

Sixty-one bipartisan members of Congress have written to the Department of Justice requesting guidance on how the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) pertains to websites. CUNA and its league partners urged Reps. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) and Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) to support credit union efforts to address ambiguities in website accessibility requirements that are spurring frivolous class action litigation.
