The Federal Fair Housing Act (FHA or Act) is Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, as amended. The FHA makes it unlawful for any person to be subjected to discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status (having one or more children under the age of 18 living with a parent, individual who has legal custody or designee of a parent or legal custodian), or national origin in the sale, rental, or advertising of dwellings, in the provision of brokerage services, or in the availability of residential real estate-related transactions.

Foundation Seeks Your Help in Providing Aid to CU Staff and Volunteers Still Recovering from Harvey

The catastrophic disaster that was Hurricane Harvey may now be history, but the damage left in its wake remains an expensive headache for many. The Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation and CUAid have together raised $1,708,428 for disaster relief. To date, the Foundation has issued 1,303 Phase I grants totaling $1,173,005 to credit union employees and volunteers.

Houston Chapter Raises More Than $10,000 for Children’s Charities

The Houston Chapter of Credit Unions continues to raise funds for Houston Children’s Charities through local tournaments. On Aug. 19, more than 140 participants made up of credit union staff and families participated in the chapter’s annual volleyball tournament at Willowbrook Sportsplex in Houston. The event raised more than $10,000 for its ongoing program to enhance the lives of young Houstonians.

CUNA, Cornerstone Examining New Tax Reform Bill and Those to Come

The latest tax reform bill was released yesterday by the House Ways and Means Committee. While initial analysis shows no change to the credit union income tax status, it's by no means a certainty. This bill is the first step in a long process, and Cornerstone and CUNA will remain fully engaged as tax reform moves forward to make sure the credit union tax status stays untouched.

Bill Hampel Recognized for Dedication to Cooperation and Education with 2018 Herb Wegner Memorial Award

In recognition of his decades of service as a dedicated advocate of the credit union movement and a mentor and inspiration to industry luminaries, the National Credit Union Foundation announced Bill Hampel, retired chief policy officer and economist at Credit Union National Association, as the recipient of a 2018 Herb Wegner Memorial Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement.
