League Seeks Applications for Young Professionals Advisors Group
Tuesday, September 8, 2015 6:35 AM

If you are a credit union professional under the age of 40 and interested in helping catalyze change in the system, as well as spark positive growth in our communities, the Cornerstone Credit Union League has the perfect role for you. Through Oct. 1, Cornerstone is accepting applications for its Young Professionals (YP) Advisors group.

The YP Advisors are an entrepreneurial group of young credit union professionals helping catalyze change in the system and spark positive growth in our communities, and Cornerstone is seeking the brightest young minds in credit unions to accomplish the following:

  1. Incite positive change for the future
  2. Break down barriers to collaboration
  3. Bring new perspective to the credit union system

The recipe for how you will spend your time breaks down like this:

  • Two parts project-focused working group
  • One part think tank for the credit union system
  • One part advisory group to the League

Tiffany Halfon, director of foundations from Smart Financial Credit Union said of her experience as a YP advisor, "Being part of this YP Advisor Group for 2014-2015 has been an eye opening experience for me. I have enjoyed every minute of it. We are given a place, almost a sounding board, where we can give suggestions and ideas on issues that will directly impact the Young Professionals throughout the League. There is a bond that has been formed with all of the advisors and staff. I know how fortunate I am to have been selected, and I am truly grateful for this opportunity—not only for myself but for Smart Financial Credit Union."

Jeremy Daggs, director of marketing at University & Community FCU, said of his experience, "Serving as a YP Advisor was unique. Working with other credit union YPs from other states opens your eyes to the credit union world and what it offers to the everyday people of the United States. I learned that no matter what your background is or where you come from, people can come together to do good works if they are doing it for a good cause and I believe credit unions are a good cause. I made a connection with each person on the advisory board, and it has been one of the best groups of people that I have been involved with."

Want to be part of this unique group? Submit your application!

Again, applications are being accepted until Oct. 1. Cornerstone will select finalists, and those finalists will be scheduled for a face-time interview. If you are chosen to be a member of the YP Advisors, please note that you will need to be available for:

  • At least four in-person workshops per year. Your airfare or mileage expenses will be covered; however, all other expenses (hotel, food, gas, etc.) will be responsibility of the credit union.
  • Commitment to execute MANY projects over the course of your term.
  • Ongoing phone and online conversations throughout your term.

To apply by the Oct. 1 deadline, simply visit the CUYP website.
