Leadership Conference & Expo: Terrorist Financing
Wednesday, August 28, 2013 5:30 AM

Shortly after 9/11, the Federal Bureau of Investigations established the Terrorism Financing Operations Section (TFOS). Within the FBI, TFOS is responsible for following the money, providing financial expertise on its terrorism investigations, and centralizing efforts to identity extremists and shut down terrorism financing in specific cases. At the Cornerstone Credit Union League’s Leadership Conference & Expo Sept. 5-7 in San Antonio, credit unions will have an opportunity to learn more about FBI initiatives aimed at stopping terrorist financing.

Presented by FBI special agents Tanya Coleman (Austin Field Office) and Dennis May (San Antonio Field Office), and Shawn Scott, FBI task force officer and Round Rock police detective, this fascinating session explores the various roles individuals play in the terrorist financing cycle. The law enforcement agents will present cases, as well as highlight what role financial institutions can play to help in the struggle to keep money out of the hands of terrorists.

The presenters will also discuss the Bandit Shield Initiative; an FBI Crime Reduction Initiative developed to reduce financial institution robberies, and to assist law enforcement entities with robbery investigations.

Credit unions can learn more about this session, as well as other program highlights in the Education section of the Cornerstone Credit Union League’s website. The League’s Leadership Conference & Expo features 24 educational sessions, three general sessions and four best practice panel discussions.
