Kingsville Community FCU Leader Recognized as Financial Services Champion
Friday, April 18, 2014 6:50 AM

Armando A. Martinez, President & CEO of Kingsville Community FCU in Kingsville, Texas, was honored as the Small Business Administration Harlingen District Financial Services Champion of the Year for 2013.

The award recognizes an individual who has selflessly fulfilled a commitment to support entrepreneurship through legislative or regulatory action designed to help small businesses advance the interests and/or improve conditions for small business owners through their hard work, innovation, and service to the community.

"As a leader of a small credit union, this award signifies that credit unions can and should participate in the empowerment of small businesses where generally other lenders at banks and other financial services organizations elect not to pursue small dollar business lending due to risk, cost to administer portfolio, or lack of profitability due to loan size," says Martinez.

"The work to provide affordable excess thru a growing stable of financial products and services is an ongoing initiative at Kingsville Community Federal Credit Union," continues Martinez. "Our members will receive notification of this award though mailings, website, and newsprint; and will be invited to a gathering to honor them for the opportunity given our board of directors, supervisory committee, management, and staff to serve and focus on our credit union mission."

Located in a rural community of South Texas, the award is significant to Kingsville Community FCU as it identifies the credit union as a participant in the continued commitment to financial empowerment for all.

"We hope that our peers will join the cause, further empowering small businesses, which are owned or worked at by more than half of Americans, helping create about two out of every three new jobs in the United States each year," says Martinez. "This collaboration among respective financial entities can help fuel our present economic condition to the greater good of our citizens and government."

According to Martinez, credit union leaders are among the best at offering affordable financial products and services to member citizens.

"Our goal must always be focused on the improvement of our member’s financial health in every direction," says Martinez. "Our leaders continued work of understanding member needs and how to best fulfill those needs must remain the credit union way."
