It's Election Day in Texas—Get Out and Vote!

Vote

It's Election Day in Texas. Please tell your credit union members and employees to head to the polls and use your constitutional right to make your voice heard at the ballot box.

Below are the amendments to be voted on:

Proposition 1

Taxes

Changes the homestead exemption amount for school district property taxes from $15,000 to $25,0000

Proposition 2

Taxes

Exempts property from taxation for surviving spouses of totally disables veterans

Proposition 3

State Executive Officials

Repeals the requirement that certain executive officials reside in the state capital, Austin, while in office

Proposition 4

Gambling

Allows professional sports team charitable foundations to conduct charitable raffles

Proposition 5

Transportation

Authorizes counties with 7,500 people or less to perform private road construction and maintenance

Proposition 6

Hunt & Fish

Provides for a right to hunt, fish, and harvest wildlife

Proposition 7

Government Finances

Allocates a portion of sales and use tax revenue to the state highway fund through 2032

 
Please take this opportunity to GOTV—Get Out the Vote! Encourage your staff and directors to do the same. Voter turnout is historically low in these elections, with less than 9 percent of registered voters showing up to vote in 2013.

To further our credit union movement, it is imperative that we light a fire within ourselves to become more politically educated so that when the time comes, we can make our voices heard. What better time to start then now? GOTV!
