International Credit Union Day is a day of celebration for credit unions around the world to showcase the spirit of the credit union movement, which begins with people helping people. Every day, millions are touched by credit unions. As not-for-profit financial cooperatives, credit unions are governed not by financial gain, but by an unwavering commitment to helping people meet their financial goals. That's why governors from all three states in the Cornerstone region have made official proclamations declaring Oct. 18, 2018, as Credit Union Day, in coordination with International Credit Union Day, founded by the World Council of Credit Unions.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson in Arkansas, Gov. Mary Fallin in Oklahoma, and Gov. Greg Abbott in Texas have announced their support and acknowledged the many contributions of credit unions to the communities they serve.
These proclamations are a great way to show members and consumers alike that credit unions are a strong economic and social force. The 2018 International Credit Union Day theme, "Find Your Platinum Lining" celebrates 70 years of the credit union difference.
