Though the worst is over for Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast, Hurricane Harvey is leaving an impact to the tune of billions of dollars in damages. In the wake of the devastation, the Houston Chapter of Credit Unions Board of Directors approved a donation to the Cornerstone Foundation in the amount of $25,000 to support those in the credit union community affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Craig Atkinson, president of the Houston Chapter and CEO of Houston Highway Credit Union, states, “Our hearts go out to those within our credit union community, their staff, family members, and credit union members who have suffered so much from the recent storm. Helping our credit union brothers and sisters during this time is truly people helping people.”

Foundation Executive Director Courtney Moran reports that as of Sept. 15, CUAid and the Foundation have raised more than $1.3 million for disaster relief, and the Foundation has given out 833 grants of approximately $791,480.

The Houston Chapter of Credit Unions provides a collaborative environment for credit union professionals and volunteers to receive education, leadership development, and grow credit union community influence. The Houston Chapter comprises more than 100 credit unions in the greater Houston metropolitan area.
