Presenter: Jim Phelps, VP – Advocacy, from the Cornerstone Credit Union League, will be presenting information on Credit Union Advocacy Strategies, including how to create a “CU R.O.A.R.” team at your credit union.
6:30 pm – Location: Alamo 2 room (2nd Floor)
Speaker: Tom Haider, EVP – Advocacy, with the Cornerstone Credit Union League, will be discussing the
Political Advocacy Strategies for the League and CUNA as we prepare for the upcoming 2014 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference.

Tom Haider, EVP – Advocacy, Cornerstone Credit Union League
Tom Haider brings more than 25 years of advocacy experience in the financial services industry to the Cornerstone League. Tom began his career with the Minnesota Credit Union League providing legal and compliance advice to credit unions, while also running the League’s government relations program.
Tom then joined MoneyGram International, Inc., where he held a number of positions, ultimately serving as the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Chief Compliance Officer.
Tom has extensive experience working on state, federal and international public policy issues. He has lobbied successfully for the passage of legislation in multiple states, including Texas, as well as Congress and the European Union’s Parliament. He has in-depth knowledge of the many issues affecting credit unions today.
Today, Tom serves as the Cornerstone League’s EVP and Chief Advocacy Officer.
Jim Phelps, Vice President – Advocacy, Cornerstone Credit Union League
As Vice President - Advocacy, Jim is responsible for the League’s political involvement programs including CU: R.O.A.R., Project Zip Code, the Legislative Coordinator network and the League’s chapter program encompassing 35 chapters across Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Jim is a member of the American Association of Credit Union League’s Political Involvement and Grassroots Committee, charged with developing strategies to enhance the political influence of credit unions at the national level. He was also involved in the development of the League’s “YP Advisor” initiative designed for young credit union professionals between the ages of 18-35. He is a graduate of Northern Illinois University, and a Certified Association Executive (CAE).
