House Subcommittee Moves NCUA Hearing to Today at 1 p.m. CT
Thursday, July 23, 2015 6:45 AM

The House Financial Services Subcommittee on financial institutions and consumer credit is moving its National Credit Union Administration hearing up a day. It is now scheduled for today at 1 p.m. (CT). The hearing, at which NCUA Chair Debbie Matz is the sole witness, was originally scheduled for Friday.

In advance of the hearing, Credit Union National Association has met with subcommittee members and staff to detail opportunities for regulatory relief from the agency. As Ryan Donovan, CUNA chief policy officer recently observed, "It’s been about six years since the NCUA last held a hearing on its budget, and it’s been about four years since an NCUA chairman has testified before the House Financial Services Committee."

During a recent Cornerstone trip to Washington DC, Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling spoke with league members about NCUA operations, with respect to today's hearing, and credit unions' perception of NCUA as their regulator.

CUNA anticipates there will be some focus on the NCUA’s budget and operations and some questions related to the proposed Risk-Based Capital rule.
