2017 Home Equity Lending in Texas

This ½ day seminar is for Texas State and Federal Credit Unions that are in the early stages of a traditional Texas Home Equity lending program, but will also provide a refresher and update for those Credit Unions that have made Texas Home Equity loans for some time. The seminar includes rules for permissible lending against member homestead under the Texas Constitution and statutes, a step-by-step analysis of the extensive Texas Constitutional Amendment containing the legal requirements for a Texas Home Equity loan, rules for curing errors in existing Home Equity loans, and collection and foreclosure. The seminar is also structured to allow the speaker a maximum amount of time for discussion of individual questions and concerns.

Please note that this ½ day seminar does not address HELOCs or questions pertaining to the new Truth in Lending Combined Disclosures.

Who Should Attend?

Credit unions that have recently decided to offer home equity lending to its members, who have never offered home equity programs, who are anticipating new interest in home equity lending, and who currently have home equity loan programs who need to learn about updated requirements for closed-end home equity.

Presenter - Tom Duke, Esq.

Tom Duke

Tom Duke has over twenty years’ experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Blalack & Williams in 1996, he served as Assistant General Counsel and Compliance Officer of a major Texas bank holding company. Mr. Duke provides extensive training for credit unions in all areas of home equity lending and is a frequent speaker at home equity seminars throughout the state of Texas. His areas of practice include: Credit union and consumer finance law, commercial and residential real estate law, transactions and contracts, and seminars and training. Tom has a B.A. from Austin College and a J.D. from Baylor University School of Law.

Registrant Cancellation Policy

Substitutions are always welcome. Registration fee refunds (less a $50 processing fee per person) are granted for cancellations received in writing two weeks prior to the seminar.

Seminar Cancellation Policy

Locations with less than 20 registrants two weeks out may be cancelled. In the event of cancellation, all registrants will be notified.
