I am thrilled to share the good news that Hilco Federal Credit Union has completed construction and moved into their new main office in Kerrville, Texas. I had the pleasure of touring the new office and visiting with the CEO, Ed Baskin, and his staff on Jan. 20.

“It was a seven-year, grueling process, but we finally got here,” Ed shared with a smile.

The credit union was founded Oct. 27, 1960, by Ed’s father, Ed Baskin, Sr., when NCUA granted him a charter to serve the employees and family members of the Kerrville State Hospital. The credit union’s main office had been located in an old house on the hospital grounds for the previous 45 years.

Ed Baskin, Sr. served on the board of directors in various positions for 25 years before retiring from the state in 1985. Ed Baskin, Jr. served as board chair for 18 years before assuming the CEO position in 2004. His father passed away 2 years later in 2006, followed by his mother in 2010.

In 2005 Hilco FCU purchased the land with their sights on building their new main office. Then in 2008 the concrete and infrastructure was poured, and the battle began. For seven years, they jumped through hoops and regulations with the city and the Texas Department of Transportation on zoning, permitting, drainage easements, rebuilding the whole sewer system—you name it—before the construction was finally completed in November of 2015. They opened their doors to the public on Nov. 19, 2015.

The new main branch is located at 520 Thompson Drive, Kerrville, Texas 78028. It's absolutely beautiful, sits next to the creek, and has a fun, colorful sign that lights up in green and blue colors at night. It has two drive-thru lanes and one drive-thru ATM.

The staff and their mascot, “Buddy” the dog, are thrilled and enjoying their new office to no end. If you get a chance, please congratulate them on this grand accomplishment.
