Gulf Coast Educators FCU Employees Raise $1,124 in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness

Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union employees donated $5 every Friday in October for a forthcoming "denim day" in November to promote breast cancer awareness. The funds raised from the denim days collection were earmarked to support the Pasadena Independent School District's Komen Team.

Each year, Gulf Coast Educators participates in Pasadena ISD's fundraising by purchasing special T-shirts from the district's Komen team. The credit union employees wear their denim, along with the new T-shirts, on the same day that Pasadena ISD employees wear theirs.

Gulf Coast Educators' support started more than seven years ago when their HR Director Rhonda Kirchman, a breast cancer survivor, teamed up with Thompson Intermediate to purchase the shirts. The event has grown to an annual commitment, which has resulted in the raising of thousands of dollars every year. This year's fundraising total:  $1,124.

On the back of the T-shirts are the names of the survivors and those who have passed from breast cancer while employed by the school district. Kirchman said, "This is such a worthy cause, and all you have to do is look at the back of each year's shirts to realize the impact breast cancer has had in our school community."

On Nov. 18, Gulf Coast Educators presented a check to the Pasadena ISD Komen Team for $1,124.
