Shell FCU is getting into the spirit of the holiday…International Credit Union Day that is. The credit union has put a short video out on YouTube, asking, “Guess what day it is?” The credit union is offering members that visit the credit union on International Credit Union Day the opportunity to win a Visa gift card.

Since 1948, International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October. This year, it’s being celebrated on Oct. 17, and the Cornerstone Credit Union League is encouraging credit unions to celebrate this special day by engaging in such activities as hosting an open house, conducting a membership drive, and holding contests and fundraisers to help out their local communities. For more ideas on how to celebrate, visit the International CU Day page on the League’s website, at www.cornerstoneleague.coop/icu_day_2013.html.
Each year, the international event affords the opportunity to remember credit unions’ proud history and promote awareness of and support for the credit union difference. This year’s theme, “Credit Unions Unite for Good: A Better Way,” emphasizes the benefits of cooperation among credit unions worldwide. It also speaks to the powerful global network of 56,000 credit unions, which no other financial institution can claim, and the advantages that result from sharing challenges, experiences and solutions with one another to better serve members.
