ICU Day 2017

International Credit Union Day, which this year falls on Oct. 19, celebrates the spirit of the global credit union movement. The day is recognized to reflect upon our history, promote our achievements, recognize hard work, and share member experiences.

Check out our global reach worldwide.

The 2017 International Credit Union Day theme, "Dreams Thrive Here," illustrates how credit union and other financial cooperatives serve as catalysts to make different professions, personal choices, and career paths real.

As credit unions prepare to celebrate this year's International Credit Union Day on Oct. 19, credit union leaders are encouraged to remember their local lawmakers.

Hold an Open House on Oct. 19
ICU Day is a great time to advocate for credit unions. Invite your community and state leaders to join you and your members in the celebration. Ask them to make a personal appearance at your credit union where they can meet their constituents.

We have more than 104 million memberships nationwide. That's one in three Americans proudly uniting themselves behind common values and principles to be credit union members. Show your lawmakers how you're meeting the financial services needs of your members—their constituents—and your community.

Get your talking points ready.
If you need inspiration, go to the Cornerstone website, where the list of benefits for supporting credit unions is long! For instance . . .

  • Credit unions offer a wealth of financial products and services, helpful and personalized service, and great rates, so it's tough to see why anyone wouldn't want to be a credit union member.
  • Credit unions take pride in being financial institutions that look out for members' financial interests, as well organizations that cooperate and collaborate to address social issues and concerns in our communities.

The ultimate goal of International Credit Union Day is to raise awareness about the great work credit unions are doing around the world and give members the opportunity to get more engaged. The day of festivities for credit unions and financial cooperatives globally include fundraisers, open houses, contests, picnics, and parades.
