Get in Shape with the Member Business Lending Boot Camp
Thursday, January 22, 2015 6:45 AM

Member business lending can be both challenging and risky.  That’s why the Cornerstone Credit Union League has partnered with Hipereon, Inc. to bring credit unions a highly-interactive Member Business Lending Boot Camp.  Previous participants are continuing to excel.  Their newly developed understanding of the MBL process helps minimize the risks of member business lending for their credit unions.

Make a commitment today!  Invest in your staff by sending them to Cornerstone’s Member Business Lending Boot Camp.  The highly interactive sessions will teach your participant(s) how to better evaluate credit risks, and communicate more effectively with their member business owners.  They will master accounting principles, decipher tax returns, analyze business financial statements, critique projection logic, develop credit memorandum rationale, and assess cash flow.

Participants will be immersed in all things MBL; such as financial ratios, industry risks, and predicting cash.  After working with 30 year MBL veterans, attendees return to the credit union with knowledge of how to improve their credit union’s MBL portfolio and how to comply with regulator demands.  Invaluable networking also happens during these sessions.  Students return with contacts and long-lasting friendships from other credit unions that they can trade advice with.

Here’s a sample of what last year’s participants said:

“It was an amazing experience.  I came from a credit union that hadn’t started business lending and the material taught was exactly what the credit union needed to get started.”

Elizabeth Escobar, Lending Supervisor at Express CU

“MBL Boot Camp was one of the best investments that our credit union has made in training.  I use the skills I learned every day.  My credit analysis and credit presentations are now much more detailed.  I also learned how to communicate the numbers in a way for everyone to understand.  If your credit union is working a business lending program or already has one, this training will be priceless.”

Jaki Polich, Credit Analyst at Members Trust FCU

Cornerstone’s Member Business Lending Boot Camp is five one-week sessions running March through October.  The last session includes a review and final exam.  Successful completion of the program provides individuals with skill sets to perform as junior commercial lending officer.  Now is the time to register, before another good deal walks out the door, or before you make a potentially bad loan.
