Generations FCU Kick Off

Generations Federal Credit Union celebrated the kick off of its 75th anniversary month on Wednesday, July 1, by hosting a Random Acts of Kindness event. Generations staff were divided into 16 teams and each team was assigned a “zone” where they surprised random people by paying for their gas, groceries, lunches, water bills, etc. The 16 zones were located in every part of San Antonio, from Central, South, and North to the far West and East sides.

More than 60 Generations employees participated in the project. Staff met at the credit union’s Balcones Heights branch for a kick-off pep rally and then headed out to their assigned zones. Media outlets were invited to attend the kick-off event and were assigned to ride-along teams.

“There is no better way to launch our month-long anniversary celebration than by helping people in our community and by making a difference in their day with a Random Act of Kindness,” said Steve Schipull, president and CEO of Generations FCU. “Our credit union has a rich history of serving our community through products and services that make a difference in the lives of our members, and we are proud to add this project to that list.”

Generations Act of KindnessAll teams were assigned social media captains to capture the story and upload photos and videos to Generations social media outlets. Credit Union staff and members of the community could follow along with the day's activities at #GFCU75. The teams passed out branded bags as well a flyers and other promotional items.

Some of the Random Acts of Kindness stories included a team who purchased clothing for a family that was leaving for a missionary trip to Guatamala and another who bought gas for a woman who, moments earlier, received word that she was cancer free.

“This community has supported us every step of the way for the past 75 years," said Schipull. "This Random Acts of Kindness event provided us with the opportunity to give back as we move forward in our future successes.”
