The recipient of the 2015 Compliance Professional of the Year award was presented to Darlene Palmore during the June 8-10 Compliance and Audit Conference in Oklahoma City.

Palmore's operational and compliance knowledge and skills acquired over a lengthy credit union career have enabled her to be particularly effective in her role as vice president of compliance for GECU in El Paso, Texas, a credit union with $2.1 billion in assets.

Palmore participated in the evolution and development of her credit union’s compliance department, from its humble beginnings to its current advanced system of implementing innovative products and services. Early on, she recognized the need for change in the credit union's compliance structure, and through her leadership brought it in line with the credit union’s size and complexity.

As a member of senior management, Palmore plays a prominent role in her credit union’s decision-making and determination of strategic goals. Because of her influence, compliance is always at the forefront of organizational planning, ensuring cohesiveness between the credit union’s objectives and the best interests of its members.

Education and training is an integral part of Palmore's business practices. She has earned various compliance-related certifications including the CUCE, BSACS, CCS, and the CRVPM. She has represented her credit union at the Texas and CUNA Governmental Affairs Conferences and through participation in the CUSO/HOAP board; Asset/Liability Committee; Business Credit Committee; the GECU Foundation; and the Cornerstone Compliance Council Executive Committee where she currently serves as treasurer.
