GECU and the El Paso Chapter of CUs Honor Dick Ensweiler
Friday, September 9, 2016 7:00 AM

On a recent Monday night in El Paso, Texas, GECU hosted Cornerstone CEO Dick Ensweiler and his wife Judy, along with Gretchen Ziegler, Cornerstone's VP political affairs, to their suite at the El Paso Chihuahuas Minor League baseball game.

In recognition of his many years of service to the Credit Union Movement and his upcoming retirement, Ensweiler was given the honor of throwing out the first pitch. The Chihuahuas' announcer gave the crowd a few words about him, and congratulated him on his distinguished career.

The following Tuesday, GECU's senior staff hosted a special lunch, after which, Ensweiler was invited to address GECU's all-staff "huddle." He spent time talking about the history of credit unions, the Seven Cooperative Principles, the league system of interdependence, advocacy, and other items of interest.

For the finale, GECU presented Ensweiler with a $4,000 contribution to the PAC, an amount which was raised entirely by the GECU staff during the prior month.

Tuesday evening, Ensweiler attended and spoke at the El Paso Chapter meeting. Before the night was over, he received a great surprise. The chapter organizers had arranged for the star on El Paso's Franklin Mountain to be lit in his honor, recognizing his service to the credit union movement.
