On May 26, the Fort Worth Chapter of Credit Unions held a bake auction for the benefit of the Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation. The chapter has held this auction annually since 2009, and it's proven to be a fun, collaborative, and sometimes competitive way of raising funds for an organization that gives back so much to the credit unions it serves.

For the auction, baked goods were donated by credit union CEOs, volunteers, vendors, staff, and credit union members. Bidders had their choice of cupcakes, brownies, cakes, bread puddings, and pies—all homemade.

Approximately 75 people were in attendance as Cornerstone Credit Union League CEO Dick Ensweiler delivered a speech on the state of the credit union industry; updates on Cornerstone, including strong staffing in each state capital and a good bottom line after its first full year; the League’s first Net Promoter Score; the success of several key bills in the Texas Legislature; and a brief review of strategic goals.

“May is always one of our more exciting and well-attended meetings each year," said Fort Worth Chapter Vice Chair/Program Chair Beth M. Peters. "This year we exceeded our fundraising efforts from last year and raised more than $4,400. The Fort Worth Chapter of Credit Unions would like to thank our bakers and those that came with deep pockets to help benefit this wonderful organization.”

“The Annual Fort Worth bake sale creates a lot of spirited competition amongst staff, CEOs and vendors," said Foundation Development Director Staci Zale, "but it is not about who outbids who or who wins the best homemade cake (yum). Everyone was just sharing in the fun and taking pride in the fact that they’re raising money for a worthy cause."

Zale went on to say, "The Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation supports credit unions and their efforts to meet the needs of their members and communities. By supporting the Foundation, they are supporting future credit union outreach programs, as well as the professional development of credit union staff and volunteers.”
