Thursday, January 2, 2014 7:00 AM

George F. Ballis, former President/CEO of AMOCO Federal Credit Union, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2013. Mr. Ballis began working for the credit union in 1962, traveling from location to location, meeting members to take deposits and make loans. In 1973, he was promoted to CEO, a capacity in which he served for 25 years until his retirement in 1998. His dedication to the credit union fostered its growth from $8 million in assets to $261 million in assets. On October 21, 2004, the Board of Directors of AMOCO FCU dedicated the building at 2300 Texas Avenue the George F. Ballis Building in recognition of his 37 years of dedicated service. "While the credit union enjoyed tremendous growth and financial success during Mr. Ballis' tenure, he will be more remembered for the family environment he created and his commitment to serve the members and employees of the credit union," stated Shawn Bailey, current AMOCO President/CEO. "He was and still is the heart and soul of AMOCO credit union."

“On behalf of the AMOCO Federal Credit Union Board of Directors we offer our sincere condolences for the loss of our former CEO, George Ballis. George was loved by everyone he met and we are fortunate to have had him in our lives. His zest for life was reflected everyday he was with us. George was a great friend, role model and icon for the credit union movement. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.”
