Flood Update and Preparedness Resources
Wednesday, May 27, 2015 6:15 AM

The storms impacting portions of Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana over the holiday weekend appear to be continuing into the early part of this week. To help your organization prepare and safely recover from these storms, Agility has assembled a list of recommendations for dealing with the aftermath of floodwaters and severe weather.

  1. Download and review Agility's Flood Preparedness Checklist. If flooding hasn’t occurred in your area yet, the time for preparation is now.
  2. Execute your crisis communication strategy. Proactively reach out to all employees, as well as any critical vendors/suppliers and clients. For recommendations on how to execute a well-rounded strategy, download the Agility Crisis Communications Checklist.
  3. Make sure your office is ready to answer the phones. If needed, forward your phone lines to mobile devices or employee home phones.
  4. Have realistic expectations on the length of time it will take to recover, including the level of employee performance while working out of the office.
  5. Set-up adequate IT support for dispersed staff that may need help utilizing technology remotely.
  6. Set and execute scheduled updates for staff and other stakeholders so everyone understands the expectation for work as the event unfolds.
  7. Contact your insurance provider, and conduct as thorough an impact assessment as you can, considering the conditions. Take as many pictures as possible.
  8. Ensure the status of your locations is posted on your website, on social media accounts, and via outgoing voicemail greetings.
  9. Prioritize your recovery actions according to which business operations are most critical. Ensure collaboration between and among departments.
  10. Inquire about possible government assistance for recovery including FEMA Disaster Assistance and SBA Disaster Assistance Loans.
