About five years ago, First Family FCU in Henryetta, Okla. was searching for a cause to support, and they quickly identified hunger as a significant problem in their community. The credit union jumped into action holding their first successful food drive in 2008. Five years later, the credit union is still doing its part to wipe out hunger.
This year, the credit union began accepting donations Nov. 1, at their three branches: Henryretta, Okmulgee and Checotah. Members had until Dec. 13 to donate canned foods for Henryetta Lion’s Club Christmas Baskets, the Okmulgee County Salvation Army and Mount Olive Star Baptist Church’s “Feeding All Souls” community basket program in Checotah.
As of Dec. 13, the credit union received more than 450 cans of food. Those who donated food were entered in a drawing for a chance to win $100, and the credit union held a drawing at all three branches.
“First Family is proud to encourage our members to give back to those in the community that have fallen on tough times,” says David Dykes, CEO of First Family FCU.
