First Community CU ICU Day

International Credit Union Day did not stand alone at First Community Credit Union. No, "local service, local good" was the order of the week when this Houston-based credit union's organizers combined ICU Day with breast cancer awareness to leverage the greatest benefits for both employees and members.

On Oct. 16, each of First Community's 18 lobbies offered refreshments and lunch kits with the First Community logo, and for new members they offered crystal 60th anniversary paper weights. Then the credit union rolled their ICU Day celebration into "Pink on Parade" the following two days to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer, offering still more gifts to members and an opportunity to make donations in exchange for a Pink on Parade bracelet.

Nancy Trennel, SVP marketing and business development for First Community, said they delivered lunch to every employee at every branch, and their 350 employees participated in random surprise drawings throughout the day. First Community CU Pink on Parade"They didn't know what we were giving away or how many prizes, just that we had a special celebration of their efforts," Trennel said. "We offered 11 prizes, from a Kuerig to an iPad, and gift cards to a TV—all to show employees our appreciation for supporting our members’ financial lives every day."

Before International Credit Union Day, the credit union invited their members to send selfies. Staff made a collage of the pictures and posted it to the First Community FaceBook page.
