Monday, April 15, 2019 6:45 AM

Identical bills HB 1182 by Rep. Vikki Goodwin (D-Austin) and SB 686 by Sen. Carol Alvarado (D-Houston) would make a half-credit financial literacy course mandatory for graduation from high school. Financial literacy courses are available to students now as an elective.

The House bill was reported from the House Public Education committee on April 2. The Senate bill received a hearing in the Senate Education Committee on Thursday, April 11.
