FBI and USSS Offer Cybersecurity Symposiums Nationwide to FIs
Wednesday, September 16, 2015 6:20 AM

Credit unions and other financial institutions are invited to register for a National Cybersecurity Symposium: Building Law Enforcement and Financial Services Sector Partnerships at 37 field locations across the country on Oct. 21 or 22, depending on location.

The open house event is being hosted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Secret Service, and the U.S. Department of the Treasury. It's sponsored by the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council (FSSCC), which is the financial services sector’s coordinator for the protection of critical financial infrastructure. CUNA is an active FSSCC member and currently serves on the FSSCC Small Institution Outreach Task Group.

CUNA has worked with the FBI, USSS, and others to organize the event and provide the credit union perspective. "In addition to an educational component, this symposium is intended to be a proactive way for financial institutions to develop a relationship with the FBI/USSS prior to a cybersecurity-related breach," said Luke Martone, CUNA senior director of advocacy.

The symposium content is targeted to financial institutions personnel that interact or will interact with the local FBI field office on cybersecurity matters, such as an organization’s chief information security officer, chief security officer, or a similar person.

Since space for this event is limited and organizations will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis by location, CUNA encourages interested credit unions to register early. The cutoff date to request attendance is Oct. 2.

The content will include an overview of the cyberthreat "landscape" as well as FBI/USSS capabilities and services. Those sessions will be followed by a roundtable discussion and a question-and-answer period.
