FAA CU is First Credit Union in Oklahoma to Receive Cornerstone's Juntos Avanzamos Designation
Wednesday, July 9, 2014 7:00 AM

FAA CU in Oklahoma City, Okla. has become the first credit union in Oklahoma to earn the Cornerstone Credit Union League’s Juntos Avanzamos designation. Juntos Avanzamos means “Together We Advance,” and this designation is awarded by Cornerstone to credit unions that have successfully completed a rigorous application process that confirms they have the capacity, commitment, and compassion to serve the financial needs of Hispanic families.

"We are honored to be the first credit union in Oklahoma to be awarded the Juntos Avanzmos designation," says Steve Rasmussen, president and CEO with FAA CU. "We have been serving the Hispanic population for a number of years and we are committed to serving, empowering and enriching these families. This designation demonstrates and strengthens our commitment to help our members in the community build strong financial futures."

The $550 million in assets credit union has seven branches, serving those who live, work, worship or attend school in the eight county areas surrounding the Oklahoma City metro. One of its seven branches is located in the heart of the Hispanic district, and the staff is fully bilingual. According to the credit union, the colors, furniture and layout of the branch was designed to specifically serve its growing Hispanic population. Rasmussen says the board of directors recently approved the expansion of this branch because the demand continues to increase.

“It's our second busiest branch,” he says.

Being a part of the Together We Advance “family” means that FAA CU offers top-quality services to Hispanic members. The credit union currently offers, among other products and services:

  • Bilingual services in all but one of its seven branches
  • Second chance checking
  • Credit-building loans
  • Lines of credit and credit cards
  • A home loan product
  • Financial education
  • A Spanish call queue for non-English speaking members
  • Signage and marketing materials in both English and Spanish
  • Advertising with local Spanish media

FAA CU has become the 27th credit union in the Cornerstone region to earn the designation. Cornerstone is working with the credit union to schedule a Juntos Avanzamos flag raising ceremony. Details will be shared when the information becomes available.
