Explosion in Central Texas: TCUF Assessing Situation
Thursday, April 18, 2013 9:40 AM

The Texas Credit Union Foundation (TCUF) says it is poised to help those credit unions and their employees impacted by the explosion at a fertilizer plant in West.

“In times of crisis, the Foundation is here to help our credit unions and their staff get back on their feet so that they in turn can be there for their members,” says TCUF Executive Director Courtney Moran.

Moran says TCUF is currently assessing the situation to determine the scope of damage – if any – our credit unions and their staff might have experienced. If it is determined that the damage is widespread, TCUF will activate its disaster relief fund.

“Already I've received countless emails and phone calls from credit unions across the state wanting to know how they can help,” says Moran.  “It’s so gratifying to know that we serve in a movement where people really care about each other.”

According to news reports, a massive explosion at a fertilizer plant has devastated the town of West, north of Waco, causing multiple casualties and leaving people trapped and buildings on fire.  Officials said more than 160 people had been treated for injuries at various hospitals.  Emergency personnel continue to search for survivors from last night’s explosion.

TCUF will notify credit unions if and when the disaster relief fund is activated.
