Everyone’s Gotta Eat, Right?
Monday, May 6, 2013 6:20 AM

When it comes to serving the community, one credit union is going beyond its call of duty to provide assistance to those in need.

The Furthering Community Unity (FCU) Team, powered by Shell Federal Credit Union, is hosting its annual food drive through May 31. This year, the theme is “Everyone’s Gotta Eat” and will provide for both people and pets. All eight of Shell FCU’s branches will be collecting food that will be donated to local food pantries and animal shelters in the south Texas cities of Deer Park, Pasadena, La Porte, Pearland, Channelview, Webster and Humble.

This is the fifth year that The Food Drive is feeding these communities. To date, the FCU team has raised more than $63,697 and donated 6,464 hours to the community.

With summer just around the corner, the FCU team also partnered with various elementary schools from the cities being served by the “Everyone’s Gotta Eat” Food Drive.

More than 400 students at each school will receive a paper lunch sack asking them to donate one non-perishable food item for people or pets. Each year the students help the FCU team add an incredible amount of donations to local pantries and animal shelters.

All Shell FCU locations will be accepting non-perishable food items, as well as cash donations.
