Employee Benefits and the Effects of Health Care Reform Focus of Pre-Conference Workshop
Thursday, August 28, 2014 6:45 AM

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“PPACA”) has imposed broad and far-reaching requirements on employers and the healthcare coverage they offer their employees, and employers must take extra precaution as they move towards PPACA compliance. At its upcoming HR Conference, the Cornerstone Credit Union League is offering a pre-conference workshop Sept. 22, which will address employee benefits and the effects of health care reform.

The pre-conference workshop features Rena Jenkins and Patti Tuma of Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. The duo will address the new requirements that have or will be taking effect this year and some other considerations that will take effect beginning next year and beyond. Employers, they say, should consider administrative processes such as monthly measuring periods, providing Marketplace notices to new employees, and 90-day limitations on waiting periods, among others things.

According to Jenkins and Tuma, 2014 promises to be a challenging year as employers gear up for implementation of the Employer Shared Responsibility provisions and changes to health plan designs under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“PPACA”). In this three-hour session, attendees will learn about various pitfalls and perils to avoid under PPACA, HIPAA, DOMA, and COBRA and what employers should do to ensure compliance as well as emerging benefit trends such as defined contribution arrangements with private exchanges and how best to finance them.

Additional information on the pre-conference workshop is available on Cornerstone’s website. Cornerstone’s HR Conference is being offered Sept. 23-24, and the pre-conference workshop is on Sept. 22. For additional information on the conference, please visit
