For the ninth year in a row, Education Credit Union has awarded Pocket Change Grants to schools, this year donating $41,903. The grants are made possible by ECU employees who donate money, at their discretion, for the privilege of wearing jeans on Fridays, and the ECU board directors generously match the employees’ donations.

ECU’s annual Pocket Change Grant is opened annually in August to area school teachers in need of additional help prepping for the school year. The grant application closes in October, and grants are delivered before the Christmas holiday. Grants are awarded up to $500 per teacher. Since inception of the program in 2009, ECU has donated more than $305,906 to teachers across the Panhandle.

The most requested items for classrooms were science equipment, musical instruments, library and classroom book sets, math manipulatives, document printers, cameras, and sensory tools.
