Dallas CU and Community Save 60 Trees with Fall Shred Event
Thursday, September 29, 2016 6:55 AM

Dallas CU Shred Day

Dallas Credit Union (DCU) has proved a small community shred event can make a big difference in their community. Partnering with Shredit Dallas and the Better Business Bureau of Dallas, DCU accepted sensitive documents to shred from credit union members and the community.

“Everyone that came out was so thankful for the event,” said Paul Butler Branch Manager of the DCU Knox/Henderson branch where the event was held. "One community member had been holding on to their shred box for over four years. Interactions like these make this event so great.”

A variety of documents were shredded on site, from personal papers to local business owners taking advantage of the free service. The semi-annual event is held each fall and spring with an emphasis on educating the community and DCU members on ways to prevent ID theft and fraud while making a positive impact on the local environment.

According to Shredit, the fall event recycled 7,040 pounds of paper, which equates to saving 60 trees, 24,640 gallons of water, and 270 cubic feet of landfill.

The next community shred event will be in April 2017, after tax season.
