CUs in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas to Host Sicredi Interns
Monday, October 7, 2013 6:50 AM

Credit union executives from Sicredi, a leading financial cooperative group in Brazil, will arrive Wednesday for a three-week internship in the U.S.  The group of 12 mid- and upper-management staff was carefully chosen to participate in this customized and targeted learning experience. Eight of the Sicredi executives will report to duty at credit unions in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas Oct. 10.

Through the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), the Cornerstone Credit Union League (League) signed a “people to people” partnership with Sicredi in 2010. Since then, the two organizations have maintained a very active partnership. The Oct. 10 – Nov. 1 Professional Fellows Program is being funded by the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs, a division of the U.S. Department of State.

“These internships are a wonderful opportunity for credit unions in the U.S. and Brazil to learn from one another; to share ideas and best practices,” says League CEO Dick Ensweiler. “Sicredi is a progressive and sophisticated organization, and I am confident that the three-week internship be a mutually beneficial experience.”

Participating credit unions in the Oct. 10 – Nov. 1 internship include:

  • A+ Federal CU (Austin, Texas)
  • Amplify FCU (Austin, Texas
  • Arkansas FCU (Little Rock, Ark.)
  • Communication FCU (Oklahoma City, Okla.)
  • Texas Trust CU (Mansfield, Texas)
  • TruService Community CU (Little Rock, Ark.)
  • Tinker FCU (Oklahoma City, Okla.)
  • United Heritage CU (Austin, Texas)
  • University FCU (Austin, Texas

Over the course of three weeks, Sicredi executives will “shadow” staff at credit unions in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas to garner a deeper and expansive knowledge of how credit unions in the U.S. operate. Among other things, the Sicredi executives will focus learning in the areas of governance, risk management, business continuity, member business lending, indirect lending, advocacy, savings products and services, youth outreach, retirement accounts, marketing, branch design, technology, social media and community outreach.
