CUs Encouraged to Participate in Project Zip Code in April
Monday, March 24, 2014 6:50 AM

In the month of April, the Cornerstone Credit Union League is encouraging credit unions to participate in Project Zip Code, and all 35 Cornerstone Chapters are being asked to help achieve participation goals.

Project Zip Code is a secure program that matches credit union members by legislative district and county based upon their zip code. This membership data is extremely helpful in federal and state advocacy efforts.

“Project Zip Code is without a doubt one of the most important communications tools at our disposal,” says Jim Phelps, Cornerstone’s vice president of Advocacy. “With more than 82 million members matched, we can accurately show the strength of the credit unions across the country.”

With the 2014 midterm elections approaching, Phelps says it’s critical that all Cornerstone credit unions get involved this year.

“There are many challenges facing the financial services industry, and the proliferation of burdensome regulations on both the state and federal level have made it more important than ever to effectively communicate with regulators and elected officials at all levels of government,” adds Phelps.

According to Phelps, Chapters will be given participation goals and those that meet or exceed their goals will be awarded a flag flown over their respective state capitals. The flags will be presented by the local League Representative or member of the advocacy department at a future chapter event.

A new version of Project Zip Code (Version 14.0) is now available.  CUNA has made available 14.0 user manuals, Version 14.0 FAQs, sample letters to credit unions, and the Project Zip Code Privacy Statement.
