CUs Encouraged to Participate in Desjardins Recognition Program
Monday, April 21, 2014 6:45 AM

The Cornerstone Credit Union League is now accepting nominations for the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award and the Desjardins Adult Financial Education Award.

The Desjardins awards recognize leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of youth and adult financial literacy. They consider all activities supporting the personal finance education of members and nonmembers, including, but not limited to, face-to-face teaching, publicity, teacher and volunteer training, promotion and the use of workplace and classroom educational materials, such as the NEFE High School Financial Planning Program.

The Desjardins award program is an excellent way for your credit union or chapter to be honored for its efforts in youth and adult financial education and serve as an example for others to follow. Increasing awareness for your efforts also helps the credit union movement gain the positive attention of regulators and lawmakers at the state and national levels.

When you enter the Desjardins competition, your credit union will compete with others in the same asset category. Individual chapters or groups of credit unions working on youth or adult education activities are eligible to enter the chapter category. Please note that credit unions in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas will not compete against one another. For each asset category, Cornerstone will select a first, second, third and honorable mention from all three states, and only first place winners will advance to CUNA for the national competition. Please note that at the national level, Cornerstone credit unions will not only compete with one another, but they will also compete with other credit unions in their asset category from across the country.

All state entries must be submitted to Cornerstone by July 28. For more information on the recognition award programs, please visit www.cornerstoneleague.coop/awards.html. If you have any questions, please contact Linda Webb-Mañon, vice president of communications & PR, at (469) 385-6486 or 800-442-5762, ext. 6486.  You may also email lwebb-manon@cornerstoneleague.coop.
