UNISAP Visits Border FCU

Representatives from UNISAP, which is the National Federation of Financial Cooperatives located in Mexico, spent two days this week visiting with Border FCU president and CEO Maria Martinez and her staff. According to Martinez, the group was here to gain insight and knowledge on how to effectively serve the community, and enhance operational efficiency.

While on the two-day tour, Martinez says the group visited Border FCU’s main office, as well as several of its branches, including its air force base branch and its branch located inside an H-E-B grocery store. They were exposed to presentations on credit union services, including its financial counseling program and community outreach efforts. Border FCU’s information technology department showcased various products, including a presentation of its core, network and data communication systems.  The credit union also gave presentations on asset recovery and collections, and duties and responsibilities of board and supervisory committee members.

The UNISAP delegates also had the opportunity to network with staff from Shreveport FCU, who was visiting the Del Rio-based credit union to exchange ideas and expose their management team to possible ways and methods of servings the Hispanic community.

“It was a wonderful experience,” said Martinez. “That is what is so special about credit unions. We are always willing to share our ideas and best practices, so as to help one another seize opportunities and overcome challenges.”

Martinez says UNISAP and Border FCU are planning a staff/volunteer exchange program in the near future.
