CUNA to Host Webinar on TCPA Petition Oct. 11
Tuesday, October 10, 2017 6:35 AM

Credit Union National Association members are invited to attend a free webinar to discuss the petition CUNA has filed regarding the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). The members-only webinar is scheduled for 3 p.m. (ET) Wednesday, Oct. 11, and registration is open.

The webinar will highlight CUNA’s main requests for relief for credit unions and outline how credit unions can participate in the petition process. Industry attorneys will explain how it could impact credit unions’ ability to communicate with members on mobile phones and via text message, and will answer questions about the latest TCPA developments.

CUNA’s petition, filed with the Federal Communications Commission, outlines how the agency can help eliminate confusion that is resulting from the TCPA.

In the petition, CUNA requests the FCC issue a declaratory ruling that the following be exempt from the TCPA’s prior express consent requirement:

  • Wireless informational calls to credit union member-owners with whom the credit union has an established business relationship; or
  • Where the call or text is in fact free to the receiving party.

CUNA has requested NCUA and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau support its petition, writing the agencies earlier this week. The request was among the topics covered during CUNA’s Consumer Protection Subcommittee meetings with NCUA and the CFPB this week.
