CUNA's Nussle Addresses 360-Degree Advocacy and Awareness
Friday, April 20, 2018 6:30 AM

Jim Nussle

Jim Nussle, president/CEO of Credit Union National Association, spoke to a packed ballroom at Cornerstone Credit Union League's Annual Meeting and Expo in Little Rock, Ark., addressing CUNA's strategic plan, awareness campaign, and advocacy in Washington, DC.

Nussle described three buckets of concern among credit union professionals today. In the first bucket is the war for talent, data security, and compliance. In the second bucket lies the future, relevance, and awareness. And in the third bucket is regulation, frivolous lawsuits, the business model, and the credit union tax status.

In laying out his strategic plan, Nussle talked about CUNA's fierce and bold 360-degree advocacy, best-in-class credit union solutions, and building awareness through consumer engagement.

Credit union advocacy efforts are second to none, Nussle says, noting also that advocacy is sometimes in Washington, sometimes a ballot, and sometimes it’s at NCUA. Their focus remains on regulatory reform, expanding credit union powers, enhancing payments security, and preserving the credit union tax status.

The new CUNA awareness campaign, he says, is the first-ever brand platform for credit unions based on extensive research that connects and complements what's already out there. He says the campaign is inspired creativity that is unique and unified. Check out the campaign at, using the password openyoureyes.

Nussle calls all credit unions to action. "Get involved in advocacy," he says, "and take a look at the awareness initiative."
