CUNA: Don't Tax My CU Campaign a Success

According to the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), the Don’t Tax My CU Tuesday campaign was a huge success.  CUNA reports the following highlights:

  • More than 5,000 tweets and 600 Facebook posts were made Sept. 10 – with more than 4,800 specifically aimed at the Twitter accounts of Members of Congress.  This is more than double our results from the first #DontTaxTuesday campaign in July.
  • More than one million Twitter users were potentially exposed to the #DontTaxMyCU campaign Tuesday – bringing our campaign total to more than 3 million social media users (Facebook and Twitter).
  • The website saw more than 69,000 page views Sept. 10, nearly seven times the daily average.  Seventy percent of the nearly 23,000 unique visitors were first time visitors to the site—credit union members newly engaged in our campaign.
  • Even though the focus Sept. 10 was on social media, another 8,000+ contacts delivered to the Hill the “old-fashioned” way – via email.
  • Throughout the day, lobbyists on the Hill reported hearing that Congressional offices were being inundated with tweets.  Members of Congress and staffers we spoke to applauded the campaign and encouraged us to continue our efforts.
