CUDE Project Focuses Makes a Difference for Women in Development
Friday, February 19, 2016 7:00 AM

For Melissa Burleson's CUDE project in the month of January, she and the staff of her credit union focused on the issue of Women in Development. Burleson is a business development coordinator at Tarrant County's Credit Union. Burleson completed her CUDE training in the spring of 2015.

Partnering with the Center for Transforming Lives (formerly the YWCA), the credit union staff read to the children during story time, worked at their Resale and reDesign Shop (all proceeds benefit the Center for Transforming Lives), and painted one of the dorm rooms at their downtown facility that houses women in transition.

"During the month of February," Burleson said, "our focus will be on the issue of health. To that end, we’ve partnered with the Kids Vision Fest to provide eye exams and glasses to children. We are also co-sponsoring a blood drive for Carter Blood Care and collecting donations benefitting the American Heart Association."

The focus in March will be on Housing and, for that, they will collect needed toiletries for the Presbyterian Night Shelter.

"Being a part of a credit union is not just about opening accounts and lending funds," Burleson notes. "It’s about the cooperative spirit and giving back and reaching out to the communities we serve."
